won again yesterday at Laurel Park, did not set a single season record for
consecutive wins as previously reported.

On December 9th, Colonial Downs began a $650,000-plus
project to illuminate the Secretariat turf course in time for the upcoming
summer thoroughbred racing season. The track received 2012 race dates at the

Earlier
today, Rapid Redux won his 21st race in a row and 22 of his last
23.  The win ties the modern U.S. record
for wins in a year with 19, a mark set by the great Citation in 1948. 

The win streak has propelled Rapid Redux past

Last week, the Virginia Racing Commission approved the dates
for live Thoroughbred racing in 2012 at Colonial Downs.





Per the request made by Colonial Downs, and supported by the
Virginia HBPA and the Virginia Thoroughbred Association, the Commission
approved a 32-day schedule for next summer.



The meet will run eight weeks from June 2nd (the week before

Back in June, Dr. Mark Gerard died.  Gerard was convicted of a horse-swapping scam
and banned from racing back in 1977.  One

Edward P. Evans’ concluded last Wednesday with a final auction tally for all
the Virginia breeder’s horses of $62,347,000. 
The unofficial November numbers were a gross of $55,820,000 with an
average of $336,265.  Back in September,
50 yearlings sold for 50 horses for $6,527,000, averaging $130,540 each.

the horse racing bug.  As a young man he
went to Europe to lean what he could in the yards of Newmarket and
Longchamp.

Fourteen horses brought seven-figure bids during Monday’s
opening session of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale, and eleven of
those horses were part of the late Edward P. Evans’ dispersal.  The top three prices were paid for Spring

Robert Cole Jr.’s Rapid Redux tied the North American record
for consecutive wins, notching his 19th straight in a starter allowance race

After a year of exploring ideas on the best way to improve
both the racing product and facilities at its New Kent racetrack, Colonial
Downs is now planning to add lights to the turf course for night racing during
the 2012 season.
