The $15,000 yearling futurity is Saturday, August 27th at
the Warrenton Horse Show Grounds.
Way back when, when the VTA was still known as the Virginia
Horsemen’s Association, the event spanned an entire day with a broad range of
classes for racehorses, show horses and even ponies. There were 22 classes in
1952 – all in hand save for one under saddle class.
The cover girl on the 1952 prize list and program, was the
1952 winner of the Racing Division. The
filly, ultimately named Bomb Flash, by War Admiral, out of Grand Flame by Grand
Time was owned by Mrs. Isabel Dodge Sloane’s Brookmeade Farm in Upperville.
The filly was as good looking as well bred. Her dam produced eight winners and two stakes
winners including Saratoga Special winner Grand Admiral (also by War Admiral).
That said, Bomb Flash was unraced.
