RUSSELL
STORMS INTO BIG WEEKEND WITH FOUR
Jockey Sheldon Russell nearly captured half of Thursday
evening's nine races at Colonial Downs increasing his margins in the meet's
riding title (43 wins). Russell's big
night was Led by Hound, sired by the inaugural Virginia Derby winner Crowd
Pleaser. In the first turf event of the
program, Hound was never really threatened winning on the front end by well
over two lengths. King Leatherbury
trains Hound for The Jim Stable.
Skiffs Brewmeister was unmatched in the stretch
for trainer Kathleen O'Connell and owner Robert Klein to break his maiden in
the fifth. In the following event,
Russell swirled Sweetvirginiabreze home for his third win on the evening for
Steven Spike and trainer Chris Crocker.
In the seventh, Promise Me was delivered to conclude the win quartet,
Russell's third win in a row. Davis Ross owns the three year old filly trained
by Hugh McMahon.
In the third on Friday evening's program, King's Coronation
goes for his four straight win, all at Colonial. The 11-year old gelding is 7/5 in the morning
line.
