MIDTERM
"BUCKET" AWARDS, REFILL
(Nick's Note-As you might have expected, the weekend storms played more havoc on Nick's Picks than VCU's full court defense. Saturday's Nick's Picks was in printform only and Sunday's was not produced with racing cancelled.)
Here is the conclusion of the Nick's Picks
"Oat Pail" midterm awards rudely interrupted by Mother Nature last
Friday night.
Trainer - Ferris Allen is tied with 10 wins by Hugh
McMahon who clicked down the same tally in only 21 starts. Jamie Ness has cooled down to 40%
winners. Lots to choose from here but an
edge to McMahon.
Horse - Friday evening I was watching the racing action at
Colonial Downs after "Off to the Races" to see whether or not I
should deem Book the Crook the first half horse of the meet when the storm
struck. I learned of his win Friday
evening on my Black-eyed Berry. He is
the only horse in the meet with 3 wins.
Saturday night's storm reminds me of another
Colonial storm event. On a Sunday when
Derby Bill and I were en route back from Three Rivers Stadium after an early
season Steeler victory over the Redskins, a thunderstorm lifted several tents
from "The Green", blowing one of them into the infield pond. Colonial was then racing in the fall.
