James Langley “Jimmy” Young, 70, of Marshall, died Friday
evening, May 25, 2012.
Mr. Young served as Orange County Hunt master of foxhounds for 27 seasons, starting in 1982. He succeeded his father, Robert B. Young. His mother, Sybil, also served as field master during World War II.
Mr. Young was a former college professor with a doctorate in education. He spent 2-1/2 years editing and writing text for a 1988 coffee-table book, “The World of Marshall P. Hawkins: A Field of Horses.” Mr. Hawkins, a well-known Warrenton photographer who died soon after its publication, had 300,000 images, the best of which appear in the 192-page book. Mr. Young also wrote articles for The Chronicle of the Horse in Middleburg.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Sally H. Young, and two sons, Stirling H. Young of Hendersonville, N.C., and James R. “Rob” Young of Martinsburg, W.Va., and four grandchildren.
