Flower Alley, the sire of I’ll Have Another, was purchased by Virginians Bruce and Edie
Smart at the 2002 Keeneland November Sale for $50,000 and resold at the 2003
Keeneland September Yearling Sale for $165,000.
He was purchased from the Smarts by the Melnyk Racing Stables of Laura
and Eugene Melnyk reportedly because his dam’s name is Princess Olivia and the Melnyks have a
daughter named Olivia.
Flower Alley handily won the $1,000,000 Travers Stakes (G1)
at Saratoga on August 27, 2005 and he won the Lane’s End Stakes, the Jim Dandy
and the Salvator Mile while amassing $2,533,910 in career earnings.
The Smart's Trappe Hill Farm manager at the time, Wayne Van
Sant, picked out the Distorted Humor
colt among the thousands available at the Kentucky auction.
Flower Alley is currently standing at stud at Three Chimneys
Farm in Kentucky and is ranked second on the General Sire list behind Empire
Maker with $2,956,096 in progeny earnings so far this year.
