EVANS DISPERSAL NOW OVER $60 MILLION

History was made during the third session of the Keeneland November breeding stock sale in Lexington as the Edward P. Evans dispersal became the highest-grossing public auction dispersal of Thoroughbreds ever in North America.

Ironically, the dispersal Evans’ Spring Hill Farm surpassed was also a famous Virginia nursery – Newstead Farm in Upperville.  To dissolve the unhappy trust left behind when Taylor Hardin died, the 42 horses and 20 stallion shares were sold for $46,988,000 at the Fasig-Tipton November Sale in 1985.  The Newstead dispersal included a world record for Miss Oceana who fetched a final bid of $7 million.  The consignment averaged a whopping $757,870.

With nine lots left to sell on Tuesday, the unofficial tally of the November dispersal is $55,208,000 gross sales with an average of $342,907 per horse.  When the Keeneland September yearlings are added in the complete dispersal of Evans’ horses is now at $61,735,000.
