EVANS A LITTLE WARM FOR SALE PRIVATELY

Does anybody need a nice stallion prospect?

The late Edward P. Evans’ A Little Warm, winner of the 2010 Jim Dandy Stakes (gr. II), has been withdrawn from the Keeneland January horses of all ages sale in Lexington.

According to Chris Baker, the racing and farm manager for Evans’ Spring Hill Farm, the four-year-old colt needs a little more time to recuperate from the surgery that was performed after he suffered condylar fractures in both forelegs during a routine gallop at Delaware Park last October.

“The sale came a little early as far as his recovery was concerned,” said Baker, who added that A Little Warm should be ready to cover mares by the time the breeding season begins in mid-February.

A son of Stormin Fever out of the grade III-winning Alydar mare Minidar, A Little Warm was scheduled to be offered as a stallion prospect Jan. 13 during the fourth session of the Keeneland auction, which will begin Jan. 10.

“He remains for sale privately,” Baker said. “I hope somebody likes him and wants to give him a chance as a stallion. He is a very accomplished racehorse, and he is a good individual and has a good pedigree.”

A Little Warm won four of his 11 career races and earned $752,280. His efforts last year in addition to his win in the Jim Dandy included a victory in the Spectacular Bid Stakes at Gulfstream Park, runner-up finishes in the Louisiana Derby (gr. II) and Hutcheson Stakes (gr. II), and a third in the Pennsylvania Derby (gr. II).
