VBF YEARLING FUTURITY BONUS FOR 2009

HUGE
Every Virginia-bred or Virginia-sired yearling that shows in the colt or filly Futurity class is each year eligible to compete for a percentage of a $5,000 bonus. Bonuses are awarded to the top four money-earners at the racetrack at the completion of the horses’ three-year-old year. The $5,000 bonus is divided with 60% to the leading money earner, 20% to the second leading earner, 14% to the third leading earner and 6% to the fourth leading earner.

In the 2007 Yearling Futurity, 26 yearlings competed in the colt and filly classes. Of those yearlings, 16 embarked on racing careers.

In 2009, at the end of their three-year-old years, four of our Yearling Futurity competitors had captured a percentage of the $5,000 bonus:

SUSIE & WAYNE CHATFIELD-TAYLOR
Securing the top honors with earnings of $97,625.00 was Huge. Bred by Wayne and Susie Chatfield-Taylor of Morgan’s Ford Farm, the chestnut filly is by Meadowlake out of Wonders Delight, by Icecapade. Huge, who earned a 7th place ribbon at the 2007 Futurity, went on to a stellar racing career: During her two- and three-year-old years, the filly won 4 starts, placed twice (including a 2nd in the Marshua Stakes) and showed twice.

Huge also won the Sissy Woolum Memorial at Colonial Downs in 2009 and finished second in the Brookemeade Stakes this year while going on to earn $110,868.

Lady Olivia at North Cliff, LLC’ Ike was second with earnings of $60,920. The bay gelding is by Louis Quatorze out of Uncanny Ability by Cryptoclearance. At the 2007 Futurity, Ike earned a 5th place ribbon. During his two- and three-year-old years, he won 4 starts, finished 2nd twice and third twice.

TOM FOLEY, GLENN PETTY, SUSIE & WAYNE CHATFIELD TAYLOR
AND HEATHER STANLEY
In third place with earnings of $40,956.00 was Pride of the Fleet. Bred by Run Aweigh Stable, the dark bay colt is by Parker’s Storm Cat out of Fancy Dancer, by Citidancer. Although not placing in the 2007 Futurity, Pride of the Fleet proved a worthy racehorse with 3 wins, 2 seconds and one third during his two- and three-year-old years.

Mede Cahaba Stable and Stud, LLC’s owned and bred Class Mark, finished fourth with earnings of $33,314. The bay gelding is by Not For Love out of Class Excells, by Class Secret.
