Jess Jackson has put the kibosh on his filly Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta tangling in the Apple Blossom in early April. Apparently, Jackson thinks he has a better idea, proposing a three-race series in which the two would meet.
Jerry Moss, who co-owns Zenyatta with his wife Ann, was surprised by Jackson’s announcement, telling The Associated Press: “I have no idea what he’s even talking about. Which three races? And where? And when?”
Jackson said Wednesday he’s been in discussions with the president of the NTRA and hopes details can be worked out with the owners of Zenyatta.
In a news release, Jackson said the three races would “rival the Triple Crown.”
A week ago, Oaklawn Park said it would boost the purse of the Apple Blossom on April 3 to $5 million from $500,000 if both horses competed.
