VIRGNIA-BRED COMMITTED EUTHANIZED

Virginia-bred Committed, a champion sprinter in England and France and granddam of Eclipse Award and Virginia Derby Gr. 2 winner English Channel (pictured), was euthanized May 3 at owner Gerald Ford’s Diamond A Ranch near Versailles, Ky. The 29-year-old mare was by the Virginia-based stallion Hagley out of the Boldnesian mare Minstinguette.

Bred in Virginia by James and Alice Mills’ Hickory Tree Farm, Committed was bought for $52,000 by the English branch of the British Bloodstock Agency at the 1981 Keeneland September yearling sale. She was a champion for Robert Sangster at 4 and a champion for Allen Paulson at 5.
